General Motors signs PPA with Enel Green Power

MEXICO: General Motors (GM) has signed a 104MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enel Green Power (EGP) for a project in Mexico to power three of its manufacturing plants.

The deal is for power produced by the 104MW Palo Alto project, which is currently under construction. It will supply all of the electricity required by GM's Toluca factory, where it builds V8 engines.

The remainder of the power with be split between its Silao, San Luis Potosi and Ramos Arizpe complexes.

Speaking about the deal, GM global manager of renewable energy, Rob Threlkeld, said: "Mexico is an ideal location for our first wind project. Energy is fed into a national grid, making it easier to reduce or add energy capacity at a facility.

"There's also a good business case as prices for traditional power are about a third higher than in the United States. Once online, we'll evaluate the project to better understand how we can expand the use of wind power," Threlkeld added.
