Seatower gravity-base foundation installed

FRANCE: The Seatower gravity-base foundation has been installed at EDF-EN's 498MW Fecamp site, off the coast of France.

Seatower's gravity-base foundation was installed without the need for crane vessels and was towed out 13 kilometers to the site by two tugboats.

The hollow base was then filled with seawater and is secured to the ground using its ballasted weight, Seatower said. It is situated in 27-metre water depths and weighs approximately 2000 tonnes, including ballast.

On the foundation is a met mast, which will get data from the site ahead of installation of 83 Alstom Haliade 6MW turbines.

Installation was in January by a couple of weeks.

The foundation and met mast was contracted by Eolien Maritime France (EMF), owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles and Dong, which is developing the Fécamp project with wpd offshore. Seatower said it will bid for the recently launched to supply the foundations.
