Alstom get green light for two Haliade factories

FRANCE Alstom has approval to build two factories at Cherbourg to manufacture blades and towers for its Haliade 150 6MW turbine.

Alstom said construction should start this year with commissioning due in 2016 or 2017. LM Wind Power will build the blade factory in partnership with Alstom.

According to the French media, Alstom has agreed to allow LM to make blades for other clients at the site. Additionally, the factory will be larger than originally planned.

Alstom declined to comment on this stating the agreement was "still under commercial discussion". The tower supplier for the Haliade is still to be decided.

In the meantime, the port authorities have nearly finished extending and reinforcing the quay in preparation for handling components for the offshore sector.

An extra 39-hectare storage area will also be added. In addition to hosting Alstom's factories, for the 450MW Courseulles-sur-Mer project.
