Balfour Beatty set for Gwynt y Mor OFTO

UK: Ofgem will hand Balfour Beatty the offshore transmission owner (OFTO) license for RWE Innogy's 576MW Gwynt y Mor project in the Irish Sea.

Construction at Gwynt y Mor was completed in November

Energy regulator Ofgem has issued a Notice of confirmation of determination to grant the license to Balfour Beatty-Equitix Consortium. Construction at Gwynt y Mor was at the end of November 2014.

By issuing the notice of the determination to grant a licence, Ofgem triggers a ten working day standstill period. This allows a final opportunity to those involved in the tender process to raise any queries or concerns.

Infrastructure firm Balfour Beatty and fund manager Equitix were also handed the OFTO license for RWE and SSE's project off the UK's east coast in November 2013.

In December, Balfour Beatty won the license for Vattenfall's offshore project in the UK North Sea.

Offshore Transmission Owners are responsible for offshore transmission assets under long-term contracts.
