Gamesa appoints first Latin American CEO

SPAIN: Gamesa has named Jos茅 Antonio Miranda as its Latin America CEO, with 脕lvaro Bilbao taking over as CEO for China.

The position of CEO for Latin America is a newly created position. Previously, the highest role in the region was managing director, which has been held by Hipólito Suárez since last September.

Miranda was previously head of the Chinese division for four years, having originally joined Gamesa as managing director of the electrical components business in 2007.

Bilboa will take over from Miranda as CEO of Gamesa China. He joined the manufacturer in 2007 as head of the energy transmission business, and since 2013 has been working as director of operations for Europe and the rest of the world region.

Both China and Latin America have been key markets for Gamesa in recent years, as the company looks to compensate for the collapse of the Spanish wind market.

Gamesa leads Latin-American in terms of market share, with 21% of current installed capacity, mostly in Mexico, where its G90-2.0MW has been sold well in recent years.
