Caithness Transmission Line construction started

UK: Construction has started on SSE's 1.2GW subsea transmission line in Scotland designed to transport renewable energy from the north to the south of the country.

Construction work has started at Spittal, Caithness

Construction of the first substation at Spittal, Caithness, in northern Scotland has begun. The whole project is due to be completed in 2018.

Swiss firm , engineer and install the 160-kilometres of cabling between Keith, and Spittal. The link will travel under the Moray Firth.

It has been designed to carry 1.2GW of energy projects – largely wind — in the far north of Scotland to the more densely populated south.

In July 2014, energy regulator Ofgem gave its consent for the transmission link. In December the regulator approved £1.1 billion (€1.4 billion) in .
