Van Oord will take on the facilities, staff, and heavy-lift installation vessel from engineering and construction firm Ballast Nedam. The activities will be integrated into Van Oord’s offshore wind projects division.
The Svanen vessel is a specialist monopile installation vessel, which has worked on more than 500 foundations to date.
Van Oord said the acquisition is part of its plan to expand its activities in offshore wind, with particular focus on the Dutch market.
Ballast Nedam Offshore is currently working on the 144MW near-shore Westermeerwind project, where it has been contracted to supply and install the 48 monopile foundations. In September, it completed work on the foundations at the 288MW Butendiek project in German waters.
Currently, Van Oord is contracted to construct two offshore wind farms in the Netherlands, 120MW Eneco Luchterduinen, and 600MW Gemini, in which it holds a 10% stake.
The parties did not reveal the financial terms of the deal.
