Companies invited to tender for 288MW transmission work

BELGIUM: The consortium behind the 288MW Rentel offshore project in Belgian waters has invited expressions of interest for the work on the project's transmission system.

The winning company will be responsible for offshore cabling

The Otary consortium is looking for companies to bid for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the high-voltage submarine cables, offshore substation and onshore grid connections.

Firms must submit expressions of interest before 31 December, after which Otary will launch the main tender.

The 220kV export cables would connect Rentel's offshore substation to the Belgian grid, over a distance of around 45 kilometres.

The project has been on hold, pending approval of the Stevin onshore grid upgrade. The grid operator, Elia, received final clearance for the upgrade in September

Otary has also said that is in advanced negotiations with turbine suppliers. The project should be online by 2019.

The consortium is made up of Aspiravi, DEME, Electrawinds, Power@sea, Rent-a-Port and Socofe.
