Alstom launches grid app

FRANCE: Alstom has launched a new application for smartphones and tablets visualising the group's grid portfolio and how offshore turbines are connected.

Alstom Grid's app shows how offshore projects are connected to the grid

The 3D app shows how the group's electricity generators, including offshore wind turbines, are connected to the grid. It also gives access to promotional videos and brochures.

The initiative is designed to show Alstom Grid's landscape "to partners, clients, university students and more," the group said.

Alstom's new app is one of a series designed to give in-depth information on Alstom's product portfolio.

In May, the firm released a wind power app, showcasing its fleet of turbines. It allows the user to experience a 3D virtual tour of the turbines, including its 6MW Haliade turbine.

Alstom is not the first manufacturing firm to enter the digital world. In 2010, Vestas launched a weather-monitoring app for iPhone.

The Danish firm also has a performance manager app, which allows Vestas turbine owners to monitor the output of each turbine.
