Gamesa confirms 66MW Jordan order

JORDAN: Gamesa has confirmed an order for the supply of turbines with a capacity of 66MW to a project being developed in Jordan.

Gamesa will install its G97-2MW turbines on the project

The Maan project in south Jordan is the first win for Gamesa in the country. The Spanish manufacturer will install 33 of its G97-2MW turbines on the project, which is being developed by Elecnor.

The project is being built under a turnkey arrangement, and once finished it will be handed over to the Ministry of Energy Resources.

Delivery of the turbines is expected in the first half of 2015, with commissioning set for early 2016.

While this is Gamesa's first project in Jordan, it has had a presence in the Middle East since 2004, with 600MW installed in Egypt.

There are currently no operating utility-scale wind farms in Jordan, but there is a pipeline of 355MW. The first operating project is likely to be the 117MW Al Tafila project, which will feature Vestas V112 turbines.
