UNITED STATES: New Jersey's Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is inviting proposals for an offshore wind consultancy firm to support developing the sector in the state.

Fishermen's has installed a floating wind monitoring system off the New Jersey coast

In a Request for Proposal, submitted by the state's treasury department, the BPU is seeking firms "to provide expertise on offshore wind economic analysis" and to help with feasibility studies.

The winning bidder will be responsible for supporting the BPU to review technical feasibility proposals, capacity, energy pricing, cost benefits to the state, and on subsidies.

The deadline for proposals has been set for 3 December 2014.

New Jersey is yet to install its first offshore wind project but developer Fishermen's Energy has proposed a 25MW demonstration project off Atlantic City.

on the basis that its expected energy price of $263 per MWh was too high.

An appeal court has forcing authorities to reconsider the plans.
