Moray Firth met mast installation begins

UK: Drace Infraestructuras UK has started work on the installation of a meteorological mast at the 1.1GW Moray Firth offshore wind block off north east Scotland.

The Moray block (marked 1 here) is 22 kilometres off north east Scotland

The Spanish infrastructure firm has completed seabed preparation work and installed the concrete gravity base foundation. The steel lattice mast is currently being installed.

All navigation and aviation aids attached to the mast are functioning and the marker buoy has been removed. The remaining work is expected to be completed and the met mast to begin operation by 10 November.

Global Energy Group manufactured the steel lattice section of the met mast.

The Telford, Stevenson and MacColl wind projects – each of 372MW capacity – are planned for the zone in the outer Moray Firth, north east Scotland.

The projects are being developed by Moray Offshore Renewables (MORL) – a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Repsol Nuevas Energias UK.

Construction of the wind farms is expected to begin in 2016, with commissioning due in 2019.
