French 21MW contract for Siemens

FRANCE: Siemens has won a contract to supply turbines with a capacity of 21MW for installation on an onshore wind farm in France.

Siemens will install its 3MW direct-drive turbines at the project

The German manufacturer will provide seven of its SWT-3.0-101 turbines to independent power producer Theolia for its Haute Borne project in the Somme region in northern France.

Siemens expects the project to be commissioned by August 2015. The contract also includes an agreement to provide operations and maintenance services for a period of 20 years, which will come into effect on the commissioning date.

The direct-drive turbines have a capacity of 3MW each and a rotor of 101 metres, making them suitable for high-wind sites.

Newly installed capacity in France fell for the fourth year running in 2013, but many observers believe things are picking up. Only 600MW were installed last year, but the removal of some obstacles in the permitting process should open up the market to greater onshore wind development.
