Gemini design certified by TUV SUD

NETHERLANDS: TUV SUD has approved design plans for the 600MW Gemini offshore project and certified the two offshore substations set to be used.

Van Oord was handed the Gemini EPC contract in May

The German certification firm analysed the design documentation of the wind project, which includes 150 turbines on monopile foundations and the connection structures.

It also reviewed the support structures for the converter platforms and the geotechnical report.

Dutch firm Van Oord is constructing the project, 85 kilometres from the coast. A Belgian consortium, FICG, won the EUR 150 million contract from Van Oord to design and install the substations for the project. The substations are set to be installed by the end of 2016.

Danish firm NKT Cables will provide the 200 kilometres of 220kV submarine cables, which will connect the 150 Siemens 4MW turbines to the substations and the grid.
