In terms of the Far East, the overwhelming activity throughout June was in the Phillipines. In June, the 87MW Caparispisan wind project, in the far north of the country, was among those to move forward. Other projects progressing through milestones were the 40MW Aparri-Buguey, 18MW Bangui Bay extension and the 40MW Pililla projects.
Overall the Philippines is looking at bringing 546MW online. The projects are largely being developed by local-based firms Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corporation and First Maxpower International Corporation. In terms of turbine supply, there is a good spread, with Vestas, Siemens and Gamesa represented.
Name | Capacity | Owner/ Developer |
Burgos | 87MW | Energy Development Corporation |
Burgos II | 63MW | Energy Development Corporation |
Caparispisan | 87MW | UPC Asia |
Nabas | 50MW | Petroenergy Resources |
Pasuquin-Burgos | 120MW | Energy Logistics Philippines |
Sanchez-Mira | 15MW | First Maxpower International |
Sta-Ana | 12MW | PHINMA |
Tanay-Pililla | 40MW | Alterenergy |
Bangui Bay Extension | 18MW | Ayala Corporation |
San Lorenzo | 54MW | Kanematsu |
However, a large number of projects have yet to announce turbine deals, which means it is likely that a number of these projects will fail to come online this year. Beyond this, around 2GW is in the pipeline for 2015, substantially more than neighbouring Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
It is worth noting that new wind capacity was installed in the Philippines during 2013, the fourth successive year in which all the country's wind energy has been provided by the 33MW Bangui Bay project, which went online in 2010.
