Vestas wins contract for first Guatemalan project

GUATEMALA: Vestas has been contracted by Eólico San Antonio El Sitio to supply turbines to the 52.8MW San Antonio wind project.

The San Antonio project will be the first in Guatemala and use Vestas' V112-3.3MW turbine

San Antonio will be the first wind project in the country to become operational when it is completed.

The Danish manufacturer will deliver 16 V112-3.3MW turbines to the site in south Guatemala from the end of 2014, with commissioning expected in 2015.

The order was placed by Eólico San Antonio El Sitio and Wind Turbine Investments, and includes a ten-year service agreement.

The V112-3.3MW turbine is being used in a number of markets. Recently it has been chosen for projects in Germany, South Korea and Mexico.

Latin America remains a growing market, if maybe not as fast-growing as some had hoped.

Last year, Chile, Argentina, Argentina, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Honduras and Cuba all added capacity, with the Caribbean bringing its first wind project online.
