US seeks New York offshore interest

UNITED STATES: The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is seeking companies to register their interest in the development of an area off the coast of New York state.

The proposed area for the development, offshore New York state

BOEM, part of the government's Department of the Interior, is looking for developers for an area located 11 nautical miles south of the city of Long Beach in New York state.

It has published a call for information and nominations for the commercial leases from companies that may be interested.

BOEM has also issued a notice of intent to set up an environmental assessment of the area to calculate any major impact the leases may have on the site.

The bureau is seeking the public's opinion on the proposed lease. It wants to hear comments from the public on the area's existing condition and uses that may affect, or be affected by, the development of the 329-square-kilometre site.

Following these processes, BOEM will decide whether to publish a proposed sale notice to describe the area to be offered, according to BOEM's acting director, Walter Cruickshank.

BOEM is expecting to hold competitive auctions in three other areas off the US east coast within the next 12 months.
