'Exotic' offshore markets to drive growth

GERMANY: Senvion's CEO said the offshore market is set to grow up to 20% in the next few years including the introduction of the "exotic" markets in America, India and Korea.

Industry expects the offshore market will grow up to 20% in the coming years, said Andreas Nauen

"We expect 4-5% annual growth onshore and 18-20% offshore in the next few years," said Andreas Nauen, CEO of the German turbine manufacturer, ahead of the WindEnergy Hamburg 2014 event, 23-26 September.

Offshore exhibitors will comprise 40% of WindEnergy Hamburg 2014, the first of the two-yearly global on and offshore technical show that replaces the former Husum event.

Nauen said it is likely that the new "exotic" offshore markets, such as the US, India and Korea, will start producing, while Europe remains the stronghold. He expects to see new growth in Belgium and the Netherlands as well.

Whether on or offshore, wind manufacturers must be truly international if they want to survive, added Nauen.

"The US will continue to be the biggest market outside Europe," he said but manufacturers must also focus on the other countries such as France, Canada and the UK.
