Dong promotes Race Bank to locals

UK: Dong Energy has held an event introducing the 580MW Race Bank offshore project to the local community.

Dong's Benj Sykes introduced the project to local citizens and businesses.

The proposed site for the project is located 27 kilometres off England's east coast near the town of Skegness.

Dong's UK country manager, Benj Sykes, held the event in nearby Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, on Friday to introduce the project to local political figures and businesses.

Race Bank has received all major consents to begin construction. However, in December it failed to qualify for investment contracts from the UK government's Department for Energy and Climate Change (Decc). meaning it missed out on the contract for difference (CfD) regime.

The Danish developer acquired the site in December last year, a week after the Decc decision. At the time, Dong said was looking at alternative funding through renewables obligation certificates.

At the start of April this year, Dong awarded the substation design contract to Atkins — the fifth such contract between the two companies. Construction is allowed to start in 2017.
