Royal said she will announce the outcome of the second tender for 1GW of offshore wind this week. She wants to start tackling by the summer as part of a strategy to create 100,000 jobs in the "green economy".
The tender covers 500MW at Le Tréport, off the Channel coast, and 500MW off the isles of Yeu and Noirmoutier in the Atlantic. Consortia led by GDF Suez with Areva and EDF Energies Nouvelles with Alstom are competing for both projects.
This will be followed by a third tender covering both fixed and floating turbines, Royal also announced. The industry had been expecting a call for expressions of interest for the first floating projects, rather than competitive tenders.
The draft law on the energy transition will be presented to parliament in July. This will outline how France will fill the gap when nuclear's share of the energy mix falls to 50% in 2025 as previously announced.
