The consultancy firm will provide NREL, and the US wind industry, with data on installation times, correlation effects, implications and processes to secure best practice in a bid to avoid delays and overspending on any planned US offshore wind projects.

The project is under way and expects to be completed by the middle of July.

Carsten Jensen, managing director of K2 Management in the US, said the Denmark-based company will use public and internal project data to build the database.

NREL is the US Department of Energy's primary national research centre for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development.
