The Jiaxing No 1 wind farm, sited off the coast of Pinghu and Jiaxing in east China’s Zhejiang province, passed the feasibility study last year.
The Pinghu city government plans to build three offshore wind projects totaling 800MW in generating capacity.
A wind measurement study began in September 2013 for the 300MW Jiaxing No.2 project.
A similar study on the 200MW Jiaxing No.3 wind farm will begin in June. Total investment for the three projects is estimated to be around CNY 15 billion ($2.4 billion).
Since last year, Pinghu has been engaged in a publicity campaign for exploiting the area’s offshore wind energy. This is believed to have attracted the attention of a number of state power groups and large wind equipment suppliers.
Tendering for the Jianxing No.1 project is likely to kick off in May, city government sources said.
