Delta to buy power from Gemini offshore wind farm

NETHERLANDS: Dutch utility Delta has agreed to buy electricity produced by Northland Power's Gemini project.

Gemini will use Siemens' 4MW turbine (shown in testing)

The Gemini project will be the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands, with a capacity of 600MW. It is located to the north of the West Frisian Islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.

Now, Gemini and Dutch energy provider Delta have signed an off-take balance and services agreement.

In January, Canadian utility Northland Power agreed to buy a further stake in Gemini and now holds a 60% stake in the project.

The Gemini wind farm consists of twin-300MW wind farms and will have a total production of approximately 2.6TWh a year.

The project is expected to cost EUR 2.8 billion, with offshore construction due to start in July 2014. The aim is to bring the project online by the end of 2016.
