The ports of Poole, Yarmouth and Portland on the UK's south coast have signed the MoU. This binds Navitus Bay Development Ltd (NBDL) to exploring the potential of each site for the operation and maintenance phases.
The deal will see NBDL invest £100,000 (EUR120,555) in to feasibility studies, which assess factors such as space, water depth and storage facilities. The sites were previously shortlisted in summer 2013.
The O&M base is expected to inject £590 million (EUR 711 million) into the local area over the 25-year lifespan of the project. NBDL is a joint-venture between Eneco Wind UK and EDF Energy Renewables.
Mike Unsworth, Navitus Bay's project director, said: "The wind park will have a significant impact on the local economy by creating skilled jobs and opportunities."
The Navitus Bay farm was recently reduced in size again – from 218 turbines to 194 – in response to public feedback on the visibility of the turbines from the shore.
