Vestas picked for Italian 48MW projects

ITALY: Vestas has won a contact to supply turbines with a total capacity of 48MW for installation on two wind farms in Italy.

The V117 features a 57.5-metre blade

The unnamed projects in the Basilicata region in southern Italy will be fitted with six V117-3MW and nine V117-3.3MW turbines.

Both wind farms are owned by renewable energy developer Asia Ambiente Italia which has installed 170MW globally since 2003.

The turbines are due to be installed in the third quarter of 2014, to be up and running before the end of the year. Included in the deal is a ten-year service agreement.

This will be the first time that either the V117-3MW and V117-3.3MW are installed in the country.

Italy is expected to install around 400MW of new capacity in 2014, broadly in line with 2013, but well below the roughly 1GW of annual growth in 2010-2012.
