The Republican-led committee wants the Obama administration to turn over uncensored internal documents on the implementation of regulations at wind farms where eagles and other protected birds have been killed.
"There are serious concerns that the Obama administration is implementing these laws in an arbitrary fashion," said committee chair Doc Hastings, a Republican from the state of Washington.
Only one wind energy company in the US has faced prosecution for bird deaths. However, a study by federal biologists released last year found wind facilities have killed at least 67 golden and bald eagles in the past five years.
Duke Energy pled guilty in November to killing golden eagles and other birds at two Wyoming wind farms and was fined $1 million.
The committee launched an investigation ten months ago into the enforcement policies and practices of the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Justice Department, and plans a public hearing on 26 March.
