The project is being developed by the Offshore Wind Joint Development Company, a partnership led by the China Southern Power Grid. The project has a total investment of CNY 4.45 billion ($725 million), which covers mainly the cost of 198MW wind installations and grid connection.
The first 100MW will be put into operation later this year. Work on the remaining 98MW will begin in the second half year, with completion scheduled for the first half of next year.
Ming Yang has manufactured a series of 3MW, 4.1MW and 6.5MW wind turbines. The 6.5MW model has been delivered for installing at the Guishan project.
China's National Energy Administration (NEA) announced earlier this year that it would seek to further promote offshore wind power.
The NEA is reportedly working on a benchmark prices system for offshore wind. So far, the state authority has approved a total of 4 GW offshore wind capacity.
