DeepOcean Group moves into geotech market

NETHERLANDS: Subsea cable firm DeepOcean Group is to enter the offshore geotechnical services market, having formed a strategic alliance with Geoquip Marine.

Geotechnical engineering is concerned with installing and maintaining offshore structures

DeepOcean has bought a geotechnical drilling rig that it says will be used to "target a number of opportunities in the offshore renewables industry".

Geotechnical engineering is concerned with foundation design, construction, maintenance and decommissionning of structures at sea.

The two companies will work together to provide these services in the North Sea, and have a collaboration agreement for services worldwide.

The new rig is a heave-compensated, offshore geotechnical deepwater drilling rig built and commissioned in 2011.

The rig is capable of operating in water depths up to 600 metres and drilling with a combined water and borehole depth of 850 metres.
