Following the take over of technology assets and 18 "skilled personnel", Exova will be Vestas' sole supplier of calibration services across the globe under a long-term deal.
Swedish meteorological firm Exova, which claims 15 years of experience in turbine calibration, has acquired operations in Lem, Denmark and Denver, USA. It has also agreed to acquire a calibration operation in China later in 2014.
Under the deal, Exova will be able to provide services to other manufacturers and developers as well as to Vestas.
Calibration is required when turbines are put in place. Met towers are used to measure the wind conditions immediately in front of where each turbine will be placed to maximise the machine's performance.
Nicola Gianluca Raimondi, head of calibration at Vestas said: "By outsourcing our calibration services, we can better focus on our core activities while maintaining the highest levels of technical service in this critical discipline."
The move is part of Vestas' strategy of outsourcing non-core services and reducing its staff headcount.
In 2010, Vestas employed around 25,000 people around the globe, but this figure has now been reduced to around 16,000.
The company has also shed a number of major assets, such as core-component factories. A number of the deals were completed through long-term contracts with Vestas.
While cynics might say that the outsourcing is being undertaken to free up cash and reduce payroll, the man heading up the scale back, Jean-Marc Lechêne, denies this.
Lechêne previously told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç that the measures are being put in place to "create a lighter, more flexible company that is able to... meet customer and market demands more effectively".
