Nordex secures 27MW Finnish order

FINLAND: Nordex is to supply turbines with a total capacity of 27MW for a wind farm in Finland after signing a contract with Impax Asset Investment.

The wind farm will feature the N117/3000

The manufacturer will install nine N117/3000 turbines for use on the Joukhaisselkä wind farm in Lapland in the north of the country.

The turbine, which was launched early in 2013, is designed for medium-wind sites. The machines will be fitted with the Nordex de-icing system, designed to stop ice build-up on blades in cold regions.

The tubines will be installed in 2014, with the wind farm expected to be operating by the end of that year.

This is the first time that specialist investor Impax has developed a wind farm in Finland. It bought the project in September, along with another pre-development project, Kuolavaara-Keulakkopää.

The London-headquartered asset manager already operates wind assets in the more developed markets of Germany, the UK, France and Ireland.

The first order for the N117/3000 in February was also for a Finnish project, from developer Raahen Tuulienergia Oy. The two turbines were set to be installed by the end of this year.

In June 2012, Nordex was handed a turbine supply agreement for up to 277MW by Finnish investment company Taaleritehdas. The deal is for 111 N117 low-wind 2.5MW turbines to be installed in projects across Finland from 2013 onwards.
