BayWa makes 20MW US purchase

UNITED STATES: German company BayWa Renewable Energy Wind has bought the 19.8MW Broadview Wind Project in New Mexico from community developer National Renewable Solutions.

Vestas V82 turbines will be used on the site
The project consists of 14.6 square kilometres south of the city of Grady, and will feature 12 Vestas 1.65 MW V82 turbines.

Construction is set to start in the fourth quarter of 2013 and the company will sell the energy generated via a 20-year fixed-price contract.

BayWa, a Bavarian firm involved in agriculture, energy and construction materials, moved into renewable energy generation in 2011 with the purchase of a number of sites in the US and Australia.

In the US, BayWa acquired 70% of WKN USA from Windkraft Nord USA securing 110MW of projects.

"With the expiration of the PTC (production tax credit) fast-approaching, Baywa is pleased to have expanded its pipeline of late-stage acquisitions," said Florian Zerhusen, chief executive of BayWa Wind.

"We... are in the position to successfully complete late-stage projects."

The project has been renamed Brahms Wind by its new owner.
