The state has set a target of 4.5GW of offshore wind in 2023, in addition to the 6GW of onshore already forecast for 2020.
In March, the government committed to sourcing 16% of its renewable energy by 2020. Now it has reverted back to achieving its target of 14% by 2020, which is the amount agreed under the EU renewables directive.
The target is in the Dutch government’s Energy Agreement for Sustainable Growth drawn up with trade unions, employers and environmental groups.
The country aims at achieving a climate-neutral energy supply in 2050. Current installed wind power is 2.5GW of which 1GW is offshore — operating or in the pipeline.
