Ailes Marines selects O&M port

FRANCE: Ailes Marines, the consortium of Iberdrola and Eole-RES awarded a 500MW project in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, has chosen the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux as its operations and maintenance (O&M) base.

Saint-Quay-Portrieux chosen to serve as O&M base by Ailes Marines

The consortium chose Saint-Quay because of the depth of water, manoeuvrability within the port and the sea conditions on route to the site, as well as for environmental and regulatory reasons, said the company.

The decision now has to be ratified by the local authorities at a meeting scheduled for 26 September.

The O&M operations will create around 140 direct jobs: 100 technicians; 20 seamen in charge of transporting personnel and equipment; and 20 supervisors.

Ailes Marines plans to commission three maintenance vessels of up to 30 metres in length to carry out routine maintenance.

The project still has to go through the permitting process. If all goes well, construction could start in 2016-17, with the first turbines turning in 2018.
