The platform will connect to transmission service operator (TSO) Tennet’s DolWin1 cable system and will service the 400MW MEG1 and 200MW Borkum West 2 phase 1 offshore wind projects.
The platform’s topside, displacing nearly 110,000 cubic metres and weighing over 9,000 tonnes, was put into place by the world’s largest crane vessel, Thialf, which is owned by Heerema Marina Contractors.
The Heerema Fabrications Group (HFG) was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the converter platform by power engineering giant ABB in January 2011.
