The deal follows a PPA signed last year with local company PAD Greeb for a 29.4MW project tipped to use Suzlon turbines, which is scheduled for commissioning next summer.
Aerowatt has yet to complete the financing of the new project or select a turbine supplier.
The projects are part of Mauritius’ target to source 35% of its electricity from renewables by 2025, with wind supplying 8% of total generation. The government is drafting a renewable energy master plan to indicate how it intends to meet that target. At present, it has only 1.28MW of installed capacity on Rodrigues Island.
Various initiatives are afoot to speed up deployment. The CEB is assessing how to integrate more wind and solar power on Rodrigues Island without compromising grid stability. It is also tasked with producing a wind atlas and with bringing 20MW of wind on to the system of Mauritius main island every three years from 2017.

MAURITIUS: The Central Electricity Board (CEB) of Mauritius has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 9MW wind project being developed by France-based Aérowatt.
