Areva has chartered a new installation vessel from Hochtief Solutions, which is nearing completion and scheduled to start work in the next few months.
As the blade and hub installation for the 5MW turbines is particularly dependent on weather conditions, this vessel will be added to those already involved so that installation of towers, nacelles and rotor blades can take place independently of each other and the whole process accelerated.
So far 51 tripod foundations out of 80 planned have been installed. The first three towers and nacelles will be added shortly at the site 180 kilometres from shore, with this initial work expected to take 10 days.
The project is due to be completed in summer 2014.
