China to construct 1.9GW offshore project

China's National Energy Administration has approved the construction of a 1.9GW offshore project in the northern coastal region of Dalian.

Dalian city will be the base for operations

The project comprises six fields near to the city of Zhuanghe totalling 1.5GW, and two close to Huayuankou amounting to 400MW. The estimated cost of the project is 38 billion yuan ($6.2 billion).

The first stage of the project, to construct turbines generating 600MW, is scheduled to start in 2015, with work on the other fields expected to commence between 2016 and 2020.

The project has been commissioned by the Dalian Municipal Development and Reform Committee, which is currently measuring wind speeds and determining exact positioning of the turbines.
