Vaisala expands with Second Wind acquisition

FINLAND: Atmospheric observations provider Vaisala of Finland has bought US-based Second Wind Systems, a specialist in wind resource assessment technologies, for an undisclosed sum.

According to Vaisala, the combined expertise of the two companies "will bring an integrated suite of wind measurement solutions to customers around the globe".

Second Wind's technology includes the Triton Sodar, which provides developers with the wind data required to plan, finance and operate efficient wind projects.

"The acquisition fits our strategic goal to expand our presence in the renewable energy markets," said Vaisala director Richard Pyle.

"The combination of the two companies bring unique and comprehensive measurement solutions that are needed to help take the industry to the next level of optimising and integrating wind energy," he said.
