Siemens low-wind turbines to power Polish projects

POLAND: Siemens has been commissioned to build two wind projects in northern Poland with a combined installed capacity of 66.7MW.

Tall towers will lift hub height to 115 metres

The developer, Polish Energy Partners, has ordered 29 Siemens SWT-2.3-108 turbines, designed for light and moderate wind speeds.

They will be the first turbines in the country to use a 108-metre rotor and will be mounted on higher-than-usual steel towers for a hub height of 115 metres.

Delivery is scheduled to start in May 2014 with the two projects, one for 18 turbines, the other for 11, due to start generating electricity later in the year.

Siemens has also secured a five-year service agreement.

"This new order is further testimony that the reliability of our products has earned us a sound reputation in the Polish wind power market," said Jan Kjaersgaard, CEO of Siemens Wind Power for the EMEA sales region.
