GDF Suez to bid with EDP Renewables

FRANCE: GDF Suez and Portugal's EDP Renewables have agreed to form a consortium to bid in the second round of France's tender for offshore wind, according to reports.

Ownership of the consortium will be "balanced" between the two companies,  French economic newspaper Les Echos reports. The companies are also said to be in advanced talks with Areva for turbine supply. Both companies declined to comment.

GDF Suez teamed up with Areva to bid in the first round for a 750MW project at Le Tréport. However, the government rejected the bid because the proposed tariff was too high. It is now being offered again, but with the capacity reduced to 500MW.

Another 500MW is also up for tender at Noirmoutier. The deadline for bids is 29 November. EDF Energies Nouvelles has already announced it will bid for both projects with WDP Offshore and Alstom.
