UK offshore contribution up 46%

UK: Offshore wind contributed 46% more electricity in 2012 compared to the previous year, according to figures released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc).

Overall, Decc said 11.3% of electricity had been generated by renewable  sources, an increase of 19% on the previous year. It also said the UK's 3GW+ of offshore wind had a load factor of 33.7%.

However, coal supplied the greatest amount of electricity (39%), enough to overtake gas (28%).
