A 20-year contract for the repair and maintenance of the electricity transmission infrastructure that links Ormonde offshore wind farm with the UK national grid has been awarded to Global Marine Energy.
It is the first such contract in the UK to be awarded to an independent service provider, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore has learned, with all other transmission asset maintenance contracts having gone to the wind farm operators served by the transmission assets in question.
Transmission Capital Partners (TCP) has signed a framework agreement that will see Global Marine Energy act as its preferred subsea cable repair contractor for Ormonde. No information is available about the contract value.
The contract is Global Marine Energy's first with a UK offshore transmission operator (OFTO) and, thus, represents a significant step forward for its UK business.
Global Marine Energy describes itself as the world’s largest "independent provider of subsea power cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services". Its recent work supporting the UK offshore wind industry includes cable landing and near-shore cable installation for Lincs offshore wind farm.
Earlier this week, TCP announced it had achieved financial close on its Ormonde assets, which are valued at £103.9m (€131.7m). It purchased these from Vattenfall, and will hold via a newly-created company, TC Ormonde OFTO Ltd, which also holds the relevant transmission license. TCP has completed similar acquisitions of OFT assets that link three other UK offshore wind farms – Robin Rigg, Gunfleet Sands and Barrow. It will take the same approach with Lincs.
