A new 80m jack-up vessel has been ordered by Danish offshore wind services firm, DBB Jack-Up. The Århus-based firm has chosen Nordic Yards to build its second ship, and has retained the option of ordering two more.
Nordic Yards’ involvement in the offshore wind market has expanded since it won contracts from Siemens Energy for the construction of three convertor platforms, for Germany’s SylWin1, HelWin1 and BorWin2 offshore cable arrays.
Construction of the new vessel for DBB Jack-Up will begin next spring, with delivery planned for a year later. It will be used to install turbines and other components in waters up to 45m deep. Announcing the contract win, Nordic Yards said that "a renowned design firm from Denmark is involved… [and that] the focus is on the further development of the jack-up system". It will be built at Nordic Yards' facilities in the German Baltic Sea ports of Rostock-Warmemünde and Wismar.
The value of DBB Jack-Up’s order has not been released.
The three converter platforms being built by Nordic Yards for Siemens Energy, which itself is working on behalf of TenneT, are designed to house electrical systems capable of transferring more than 2.2GW of offshore wind-generated electricity to the land-based grid.
