Nördlichergrund still on track for 2013 start

Negotiations with tier-1 suppliers continue

Negotiations with potential suppliers of the 320MW Nördlichergrund project are underway, as German wind developer, WindMW, continues to work toward kicking off construction in 2013, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands.

"Yes, this project will proceed. Construction is planned to begin next year," a WindMW spokesperson told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore, adding that contracts with primary suppliers have not yet been finalised.

Nördlichergrund is the second of two offshore wind projects being developed by WindMW, which is 80% owned by financial investment firm, Blackstone. Bremerhaven-based WindMW acquired the construction permit for Nördlichergrund last year, purchasing it from Eolia Renewables.

Earlier this month, WindMW announced that construction had begun on its first project, the 288MW Meerwind Süd/Ost offshore wind station. Project financing for Meerwind Süd/Ost was provided, in part, by German development bank, KfW, via its offshore wind-specific funding programme.
