Dong Energy has announced that Henrik Poulsen will be its new chief executive, joining on 27 August. Poulsen currently leads Denmark’s largest telecommunications firm, TDC.
News of Poulsen’s appointment comes a week after Dong issued its first profit warning. Poulsen replaces chief financial officer and acting chief executive, Carsten Krogsgaard, who took over from Anders Eldrup in March.
Eldrup left Dong by mutual consent following an internal investigation. At the time, Dong chair Fritz Schur denied Eldrup's departure was connected to a government audit of the company's accounts. However, he acknowledged there was an investigation over the approval of a number of employee contracts by the former leader.
Under Poulsen’s oversight, TDC’s annual revenue stands at DKK6.5bn (€879.5m) and EBITDA at DKK2.5bn (€338.6m). In his new role, he will lead a far larger company, with Dong having recorded 2011 revenue of DKK56.8bn (€7.6bn) and EBITDA of DKK13.8bn (€1.8bn).
