Seafox 5, a Singapore-built 151m jack-up vessel, is heading for the German North Sea. It will be used to install 80 monopile foundations at the 288MW DanTysk offshore wind farm.
Seafox 5 was built by a joint venture of Seafox Group and Keppel FELS. It is "a new generation vessel which will be able to out-perform existing marine assets both on cost and efficiency in wind installation," said Seafox chief executive, Keesjan Cordia.
Netherlands-based Seafox Group has made its name providing vessels for the offshore oil and gas industry in the southern North Sea. With this latest jack-up, it is targeting clients in the offshore wind industry. Keppel FELS designs, builds and repairs "high-performance mobile offshore rigs", and is part of Keppel Corporation. Seafox 5 is the first offshore wind jack-up vessel to be built in Singapore.
Designed to serve both the North Sea’s emerging offshore wind industry and the offshore oil and gas sector, Seafox 5 is capable of working in water depths of up to 70m. It can cope with foundations and turbines heavier than 800t.
The vessel has been chartered by ABJV DanTysk, a joint venture created by the two primary contractors building the DanTysk project, Bilfinger Berger Ingenieurbau and Per Aarsleff.
The project is being developed by Vattenfall (51%) and Stadtwerke München (49%).
