An Esbjerg-based company founded just six years ago has won a major framework contract with the offshore wind industry’s largest developer, Dong Energy. The contract sets the stage for SubC Partner to work across all of Dong’s offshore wind farms.
SubC Partner’s first piece of work under the four-year framework focuses on turbine foundations at Gunfleet Sands I and II, explained the company’s chief executive, Lars Wigant, speaking with “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore.
The young company has been experiencing "significant growth", with this latest framework contract "one of the biggest" it has won, to date said Wigant.
Describing itself as an operations and maintenance (O&M) firm that supports offshore wind developers from the earliest stages of a project, SubC Partner has already undertaken considerable work for Dong and other offshore operators, including Vattenfall. Beyond its domestic market of Denmark, SubC Partner has worked in UK and German waters.
The company’s UK subsidiary, SubC Anglia, recently opened an office in Lowestoft.
Announcing the contract, SubC Partner said that it and its client shared "a common goal to achieve a cost effective way to inspect and repair offshore turbine foundations".
Problems with the performance of turbine foundations risks becoming a recurrent issue for Europe’s offshore wind industry. There is an ongoing legal dispute over the quality of foundations installed at Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, while earlier this month Kvaerner announced it will exit the offshore wind foundations market, due to difficulties – and costs – associated with foundations for Nordsee Ost.
