The first ten turbines of Vietnam’s near-shore wind farm at Bac Lieu will all be installed by 15 September, although grid connection will take longer.
Work is scheduled to begin on the project's second phase next month. An announcement about which manufacturer will supply turbines for the second phase has not yet been made, although it is thought that discussions with potential suppliers have taken place.
As previously reported by “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore, the ten 1.6MW GE machines are being installed by Cong Ly Construction and Trading Company Ltd.
The 16MW first phase of the 99.2MW Bac Lieu project qualifies for Vietnam’s feed-in tariff (FiT), introduced in August 2011. Under the FiT terms, Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) will purchase all electricity generated by grid-connected turbines at a price of VND1,614/kWh (€0.06/kWh)
A turbine supplier for Bac Lieu’s second phase has not yet been chosen.
Cong Ly has confirmed to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore that it may seek to build a second proposed offshore wind farm, off Can Gio, a small island between Saigon River and the sea. The site is about 25km from Ho Chi Minh City.
