The developer of a 200MW offshore wind farm planned for the Wailuo sea area, off Zhanjiang city in the Chinese province of Guangdong, has commissioned a design institute to serve as its technical services consultancy.
Guangdong Provincial Yuedian Group last week signed a contract with Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute, setting the stage for the latter to provide technical services.
The agreement marks the latest step in Yuedian Group’s efforts to build the 200MW project within a 58km² site east of Xinliao Island in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang city. With a 7m average water depth, the project will feature 65 turbines: 63 3MM, one 5MW, and one 6MW.
Last year, Mingyang Wind Power announced it would supply the project with "super compact" turbines.
To date, Yuedian Group has completed offshore wind resource tests to support site selection and project design, but it has not yet released a timetable for construction.
Guandong is regarded as home to some of China’s best offshore wind resources. The province has a goal to built 1GW in offshore capacity by 2015. As previously reported by “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore, there are plans to develop several offshore wind farms in the Wanshan district.
