Dutch transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT has received the green light from the European Commission to be certified as a TSO in Germany. The German energy regulator Bundesnetzagentur (BNA) had raised doubts over TenneT because of its problems in financing offshore cable connections.
The Commission said these problems were irrelevant to certification requirements, which under EU law call for electricity transmission activities to be completely separate from generation and marketing activities — so-called unbundling.
The BNA now has two months to reach a final decision on whether to certify TenneT, the TSO said on Monday.
